Spensa is sure there's more to the story. And she's sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars--and it was terrifying. Everything Spensa has been taught about her world is a lie.

Oh this book, how Brandon does it I will never know.

I am amazed at the quality that his novel transpires and how much in tune with its characters and with trendy topics it is. It is truly inspiring to capture the experience that it is to follow this series.

Starsight is the second book on a trilogy of sci-fi amaze-good. The first instalment of the series, Skyward, was already a particularly good on my book and this one was just an upgrade to the overall feel of the story.

I mean Jorgen and Spensa and that ending....and doomslug and M-bot, oh the sadness!

to my writer friends I believe that reading any book by this author will help you immensely in your craft.

I need to express the fact that I read Skyward 1# on March 2019 and I am reading Starsight #2 on December same year! This author has an extraordinary fast writing process and releases books like it they are piece of candy baked in a day. I have no words at the skills that this man has because he is not only fast but he is quality in words.

SPOILERS ahead, be warned that this is a spoilery review.

Spensa is our main character and I think that the author succeed when creating a relatable yet still interesting MC. I adore how she has those weird moments where she just talks about warriors and "Old Earth" slang. It makes feel like I could just discover her in a corner of my very real home city. Because people do have weird quirky habits.

“A hero doesn’t choose her trials.”

And in this book, rather than the first one, we get to see her in a must more out-of-place environment for her and we even get to see her dealing with loneliness.

Which makes so much sense in how she responds to things right in the ending of the book.

The growth is so subtle yet very real, like we are being lulled and warmth to this new world where she needs to spies and we understand with her the price and injustice and how wars have always too sides.

and I mean I had always shipped Jerkface and Spensa so welcomed that kiss.

But as more of a personal point I wished that there was more to them and I do know that romance is not at all the focus point here but still. I just wanted a bit more, a tad more. At least some more reasoning and reaction to that one kiss. and I so wish to God that get book included a special reunion scene!

A lot of reviewers pointed out that the decision that Spensa makes about leaving M-bot behind makes her a more unreliable character and I couldn't disagree more.

"Spensa. Don't leave me".

I think that she has grown so much and the fact that she says that sometimes friends aren't that important made me shiver. She sees now way more that herself which was her focus on Skyward. She was selfish and even in this novel she starts like that. But in that moment she decided to give her wanting and make others security her first choice.

But I still crying. It still hurt. M-bot being destroyed killed me. But no war end with sacrifice.

I loved how the world finally opened up and how we get to see and learn about knew species. I think that Brandon made excellent use of the proverb "them" by using it with a being that was literally two people at once.

I loved all the new characters introduced and none felt flat or unnecessary. I loved how they all because part of a routine and changed Spensa thinking without even realising and how they all interacted with each other. I loved that it gave Spensa an opportunity to show that she is way more than a cyonic or just a pilot. That is is able to lead and be calm and adapt to other situations.

The social issues introduced through the new characters were also very smart in the way they were told and not rubbed in the readers faced. Issues like racism and violence and that now everyone is what they expected them to be and that it is okay to be who you truly are.

But in contrast I think that a lot of questions were left untouched and I think that it will be hard to finalise this story in just another book. But nonetheless the final touches were presented to the reader.

I also felt that the delver conflict was resolved too easily and didn't gave much satisfaction when it ended since it was such a "big evil" and so built up to the end.

The twist that Doomslug was the actually hyperdrive secret was a bit flat considering that it was predictable but I believe that it was kind of intentional on the authors part since I think that this will not be that important.

In conclusion, I was happy to have picked up this book. Humour and spies and love and such an incredible cast all made it very fast pacing and very enjoyable yet also able to make me think about real and important matters.
